I recently graduated in BSc Applied Bioscience & Zoology and will be starting my MSc in Entomology in September. I’ve always found myself in awe of insects, through the influence of my grandmother who too studied entomology. We raised the eggs of cabbage whites in ice cream boxes though sometimes we’d find caterpillars which would unfortunately turn into parasitic wasps, much to the horror of my mum. Since then I’ve kept a variety of exotic species and studied the Vietnamese stick insect (Ramulus artemis) in my undergrad. I looked into the metabolic trade–offs during leg regeneration and found a reduced egg length in individuals which had regenerated one or more legs! I’ve only just started my research journey within entomology and I‘m still finding my niche. Regardless of what field within entomology I end up in, enjoying insects as they exist in the wild through photography, sweep netting or moth trapping, will always be my favourite hobbies that keep me passionate.
